Gynzy is a tool that every teacher should know about. It can be used with any type of interactive whiteboard, or on any computer with adobe flash. On this website, teachers can choose their subject and grade level, and browse many different activities that relate. If you find one that you like, you can save it to your favorites or to a lesson plan folder. You can also make edits before saving the activity. In addition, Gynzy has a game show option, that allows teachers to create their own Jeopardy-like game show. There can be as many teams as you would like, and as many categories as you would like. When playing the game, teachers can edit the scoreboard to name the teams as the students choose. Gynzy will also add the points for you, as long as you click on the team that should be awarded the points. In addition, there is a toolbar on the bottom of the screen with many classroom management tools that can be added to the screen. For example, there are many different styles of clocks, a voice-level meter, a spotlight, a curtain, a magnifying glass, a traffic light, and much more. If using an interactive whiteboard, there is also a feature that allows the teacher to write on the slide.
In addition, the use of Gynzy can allow for proficiency in at least three elements of the Danielson Framework. First, a teacher can use Gynzy to demonstrate competency in component 1d: Demonstrating Knowledge of Resources. This component stresses the importance of using resources such as technology to best engage and enrich students. The use of Gynzy allows for active student engagement and learning through the use of technology. In addition, Gynzy can help teachers with component 2d: Managing Student Behavior. The tools such as voice-level meter, clock, timer, traffic light, etc. that can be added to any Gynzy screen can allow teachers to have a better handle on classroom management. Finally, Gynzy can be a fantastic form of formative assessment, which falls under component 3d: Using Assessment in Instruction. The game show feature of Gynzy would allow for a fun way for teachers to assess what their students know, either at the beginning or end of a lesson.
I think a great use of this tool would be for an anticipatory set. I could see myself using the game show feature to create a fun formative assessment that would allow me to see what my students know before I begin the lesson. We could then play the game again at the end to track improvement. Another great use of this tool could be as an activity to celebrate and learn more about particular holidays, as many of these types of activities are pre-made.
