I love Pinterest. It is one of my all-time favorite tools. I love making things and using creative techniques, but I am not very good at picturing something in my head and producing the same thing. I wish I was, but I am not. Pinterest helps me overcome this deficit. It supplies me with endless ideas, and gives me a scaffold for creating them. My favorite Pinterest ideas are simple crafts, posters, lessons, etc. that look super cool but are surprisingly simple to make.
If I had to summarize my use of Pinterest in one phrase it would be to find creative ideas that I would not be able to do on my own. I love to find fun crafts to go along with a lesson. One of my favorite crafts that I found was to create name rockets at the beginning of the school year. It is so simple to cut out squares and write the letters of students' names on them and make it into a rocket, but it is something I would never have thought of on my own. In addition, I love searching Pinterest for classroom decoration ideas. I especially love looking for quotes that I could use Canva to make into posters to place around my classroom. Finally, Pinterest is very helpful in supplying fun ideas for a lesson when I am stumped. There are so many ideas to search through, and Pinterest almost always gets me out of my creative rut. A feature that goes along with this that I particularly love is that users can add a picture of the pin in use along with a comment. This is so helpful because I can see if it actually worked and get tips on how to make it work better before I actually use it.
For the start-up of my Pinterest account, I chose to create a few simple boards that later I ended up expanding on. My first three boards were Tutoring, Future Classroom Decor, and Kids Crafts. I began with the tutoring board because at the time of opening my Pinterest account, I was planning activities for a student that I was tutoring. Pinterest supplied me with many ideas about how to make reading fun and memorable for the student. I also began with the board Future Classroom Decor, which ended up expanding into two boards with one focusing just on classroom quotes. I am so excited to decorate my future classroom. Pinterest has begun to supply me with cute and practical ideas for how to decorate. I cannot even imagine how big this board will be by the time I can actually decorate my own classroom! The final board that I opened with was kids crafts. I love letting kids be creative and make something that can serve as a souvenir of a lesson. I cannot wait to make use of these pins in my future classroom!
